Summer!

Greetings everyone!

Back into school mode. It is as hot and humid as ever here. It's my first summer/hurricane season. I navigated town this week so gracefully. A far cry from my initial semester here. I have arrived at Port Zante and/or the capital Basseterre, parked, waded through streetfolk to various locations, knocked out errands, and gotten back out in under 1 hour for 3 days in a row. Unheard of! You probably won't appreciate this having never been, but every task here occurs on island time and "errands" are an omnipresent time-consuming burden often taking a minimum of two hours. Time is gold in veterinary student land so this is a huge blow. A variety of obstacles include: double parking, individuals sitting in the road, cars parked in the middle of the highway, goat herds, stray dogs, children, bums wandering, your car breaking down, your tires popping on pitted, unpaved roads littered with nails, glass, and otherwise harmful materials. Just to name a few.

There is a 30 year old Cushingoid female burro who was in the very first Ross University herd 25 years ago. She has chronic laminitis and I'm going to attend the lameness exam and radiograph session this afternoon. their treatment plan is to stand her in sand, which disgusts me. However I bite my tongue. I may know more about mechanically treating this disease than most veterinarians here, but alas I am 23 years old and a student in my early semesters.  So I just watch for now.

I have a great video of a green sea turtle swimming while I was snorkeling, although I cannot find a way to upload it here.

Studying dominates my time daily, as always.

take care my friends.

more frequent postings promised
