Hi there everyone!
First 24 hours in St. Kitts: car breaks down, air conditioner in apartment stops working, I acquire a cold. Love it! Now the car engine has been stripped and some part has been replaced so it's back in my hands. The air conditioner is a huge mess, but I'm finally breathing out of both nostrils - woo-hoo!
This semester's schedule is great; out at noon 3 days per week. I'm going to pick on day per week to hit the ocean that afternoon, but otherwise it's back to the library. I have two incoming firsties that I've adopted. I made dinner for them last night. They are a bit shell-shocked after their first week. I'm going to tutor anatomy for them and otherwise provide support and help out just like my uppers helped me.
A/C crew (the third one) came in to assess my unit with my landlords for a rather comical experience. There are two Chinese men here: one speaks absolutely no English; the other minimal English. My landlords are very sweet but approaching the dinosaur age, so communication is difficult. At one point Dr. T was speaking loudly to one man in Spanish using animated arm gestures trying to explain the problem. It appears I will need patience for this process.
Unfortunately our apartment was broken into over break, leaving my roommate and I feeling particularly violated and frustrated. We're now on extra lock down with a new alarm system. I've spent most days this week lying in bed with a fan blowing trying to sleep off this virus I must have grabbed from my international travels. Next week it's time to kick butt and study.
bye for now
