So, the semester is halfway over! Only 8 weeks left. I monitored turtles on Friday, but didn't see any. Two came up at the far end of the beach, however my buddy, an intern from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, and I continued walking the beach in search of others.
On Saturday, I hung out with my med school friends. One is the head anatomy TA, so she lets me follow her around in the lab. I love comparing the human structures to those of the domestic animals I've learned. I can't get enough. The students have an exam on viscera today, but she invited me back for head and neck & upper and lower limb later in the semester. It made me smile that after a few hours, she closed the lab and then stayed in the lab to study. I spread out on a table nearby, basking in the stillness and quiet of the lab. That may sound creepy with cadavers about, but honestly it's inspiring. Some of their students irritated me, however. Most of the questions they asked my friend were not to clarify their knowledge but rather "Will that be on the test?" "What's on the exam?" (She tags the exam specimens.) Some students didn't even put gloves on; they simply stood over the cadaver and demanded that she teach them.
Sunday was a catamaran trip, ever famous and popular among students. All day on the cat with a snorkeling stop, a few hours on Nevis (the sister island to St. Kitts), lunch and open bar to top it off. Everyone loves these and often get a bit out of control, as professional students tend to do as they uphold the work hard, play hard attitude. I got some serious sun and napped on the boat - an excellent break from studying.
Yesterday, our official day off I went to Gong Beach to read my non-academic book and float in the ocean. This is my absolute favorite beach here. It's on the Atlantic side, however a carved out section creates a little cove with crystal clear water and gentle waves. There are no beach bars or music, just the ocean and a handful of vet students and their dogs. It reminded me of Mom and Dad, as I brought them to Gong when they visited this spring.
Back to studying, as always.
bye for now
