Banana Bread!

Last week I was so disappointed to attend the weekly veggie man cart to find crates of beautiful green bananas. Worthless to someone who doesn't eat fruit. I inquired about the usual stash of ripening ones for bread and promptly became deflated as he shook his head. Today I checked in and he had saved me a CRATE of leftovers! Beautiful brown-speckled bananas ready to swarm with flies.

Musca domestica and musca autumnalis, otherwise known as "house fly" and "face fly" respectively,  prefer to lay her eggs in rotting organic material or decaying vegetable matter, by the way. A huge grin spread across my face - finally! I asked him how much I owed today and he said nothing!! I promised to bring a loaf next week in return.

After carting home the mass of bananas threatening to become mush and then discarding the moldy and larvae ridden versions deemed too far gone for saving, I ended up with some excellent specimens that will be ready shortly. Now to acquire 2 dozen eggs, 8 sticks of butter, and drag out the flour. I'm about to become very popular at school :) I have enough to make over 10 loaves. I will probably make six, gifting half and freezing the rest the will come in handy for finals week. Delicious.

take care
