Hi there
Back to the usual sleep, study, sleep, study routine. This week is one of the only two that there are no exams, however next is portending doom with two monsters. I did successfully complete both Deep and Underwater Navigation dives last Sunday which was a nice reprieve from studying. We have a night dive tonight to count towards out certification also. I've got my strobe and camera set up for it.
I'm also still trimming school horses with the help of a first semester student. Having two of us team up makes it much less time consuming.
Last Friday was the final night of leatherback monitoring. No girls came to lay but we did release five hatchlings, which was the first time I've ever seen them. Sometimes people get really excited about helping them make it to sea, scooping them up and dumping them in the ocean. Unfortunately only 1 in 1000 ever make it to adulthood and the hatchlings must make an unaided crawl on their nesting beach to ensure their survival. For the females, even a short 15 foot crawl orients them such that they will return as an adult to lay their eggs. As teeny hatchlings, you just hold your breath hoping they make it that far.
Back to studying...
bye for now
