Update

Another 2 tank dive yesterday, our mid-semester break, at Brimstone Reef and then St Peters. Sadly, no photos because the dive club camera was on the fritz. Did not get nitro poisoning this time! I came up really slowly and we had an extra long surface interval. At brimstone we saw a beautiful lime colored moray eel and a nurse shark curled up together under a rock outcropping. Also plenty of large lobsters, a tiger-striped sea cucumber, another large grey puffer, and some sort of tiny seahorse we're still trying to identify. Night dive coming up this Thurs.

Academically, the heat is definitely on. 1st and 2nd are weed-out semesters, this much is made sparklingly clear. This school prides itself on giving a wide array of students a chance at their dream, but we are constantly reminded that you must prove your worth. That said, first semester students are dropping left and right for a variety of reasons: homesickness, freaking out about grades, etc. I'm keeping my head above water and covering my ears when other people start flipping out so that I won't mimic them.

While the location is picturesque and the recreational ops are exciting, daily activities are not as thrilling as you may expect. Class all damn day 8-4, run a few miles with or w/out Dave once it cools off, dinner and study all night, repeat next day. Most people fall into the trap of hitting the beach bars on the weekend to blow off steam. I usually find one afternoon or morning to hit the beach, but otherwise its studying all the time.

Halloween is almost here - my favorite!! There is a Ross party that's going to be absolute chaos. I'll be sure to get plenty of photos. I'm soaking some rummy bears which are sure to be a hit :)

bye for now
