Murph and Dad both agree that sticking to a smaller camera that's already waterproof or with a smaller housing is preferable to risking damage to the Canon. For now however, I haven't had any time to swim or snorkel anyway.
We were issued bone boxes today in anatomy (canine vertebral column, fore and hindlimb) followed by an intro to Large Animal Palpation. Skills: Catch horse, halter on, halter off, cross-tie. You laugh, but I was surprised by how many students have ZERO large animal experience and are truly frightened. Naturally, I asked who trims their feet after noting their crude hooves. Not surprisingly, students who are farriers from the AAEP Student Chapter...so you know I'll be under a horse soon. The six horses we have are heat-tolerant, small-boned, underweight (BCS 4), but overall relatively happy. And tolerant of the 400-some odd students poking and prodding. I wish I had Pags so I could chalk and marker on him for practice.
This evening a few friends and I are going to Port Zante, where they have touristy things such as tshirts, keychains, St. Kitts paraphernalia. They've also got ice cream and it's a nice break from campus for a bit. The rum raisin flavor, however has so much rum, we were practically drunk the first time we ate a (small) cone. They aren't screwing around with the alcohol here. We'll be headed straight back for the first Nutrition TA session tonight (no rum raisin prior, obviously).
In the evenings, my orientation group has formed a makeshift family and we sit around the table and eat dinner while we break from studying. Applesauce, chips and salsa, mac n cheese, various types of rice, chicken stir fry, salad. I gets interesting since we just bring whatever we've got, especially now that we are all low on groceries and have no transportation. But hey, it's a full meal and we can chill out for a bit.
Back to campus for more class.
bye for now
Lydia
